Frequently Asked Questions
What grade is passing?
Any score of 60 or higher is a passing grade for any high school course and the student will earn credit for the course. Any score of 59 or lower is a failing grade and the student will not receive credit.

Students wishing to advance in level 1 or 2 are expected to earn a minimum of 70 for the year. Students who pass for the year but do not meet the expectation of 70 will be expected to repeat the course for NO credit or continue the sequence at the same level.
What grades are required for a student to earn "1 st Honors” and “2nd Honors?"
An Honor roll is published at the end of each quarter to recognize students who have achieved high academic standing.
1 st Honors: Students who receive a grade point average of 93 in all courses and no grades below 70.

How often will I receive report cards?
"Progress Reports," which provide information about the student's progress up to the date of the report, are issued to students five weeks prior to each report card. A student's grade may move up or down between the issuing of progress reports and report cards.
"Report Cards" are sent by mail to parents/guardians at the end of each 10 week marking period (4 times per year; November 1, January 17, March 28 and June 9 mark the end of each period). Report cards will follow after the close of each marking period. The grades recorded on the report card will be used to calculate the student's final average and to determine whether a student passes or fails.
Can my child receive additional help if struggling to learn the material?
Students will best be served by asking the teacher to for additional time before or after school, or a free period during the school day.
The Math Department has an extra help schedule from 7:00-7:25 am and 2:10-2:35 pm from Tuesday through Thursday.
Also, the members of the National Honor Society also provide tutoring services for students needing assistance. Your school counselor can help set this up.
What is Parent Connect and how can I sign up for it?
Parent Connect is a program that the Lebanon School District uses to allow parents to access their student's current grades and see assignments that are missing or coming up.. It also allows parents to directly contact teachers through email.
To sign up for Parent Connect Parents/Legal Guardians need to come into the guidance office, show a driver's license or ID. A packet on how to sign up for Parent Connect will then be given to you. The process is simple and can be done from your home computer.
How long does a student have to add/drop classes?
If a student has a valid reason for requesting a schedule change when school opens, the reason is to be stated in writing and submitted to Guidance within the first 2 weeks of school . The exception to this rule is the World Language Dept. which has extended their timeline until 1 st progress reports at the 5 week mark.
What happens if my student wants to drop a class after the first 2 weeks of school?
Any course drop or change in level after the first 2 weeks of course will require the permission of the parent, teacher, department chair and administration. The student will then be subject to a “grade” of a withdrawal/fail or a W/F as a final grade for the course.
Is parental permission required for a student to add/drop a class?
Add/Drop forms must be submitted to a Guidance Counselor with signatures from a parent/guardian, teacher, and sometimes department chair approving the student request. All academic requests and level changes need to be approved by a parent.
Is my student eligible for National Honor Society?
Membership to NHS is selective and limited to Juniors and Seniors. In order for students to be eligible for admission they must have an overall 85 average and a minimum of 13 on the quality point matrix. Please see NHS advisors with any further questions.
Is my student's grade point average weighted?

How/Where can my student find available scholarships?
The guidance office maintains a scholarship binder that holds national and state scholarships as well as a few local community organization scholarships. It is organized by month and specific due dates. Students can check out the binder and a guidance counselor will make copies as needed.
Students can also visit scholarship sites such as www.fastweb.com to do scholarship searches – NEVER pay for scholarship searches/services. There are many free search sites out there that will give you many scholarship results.
How do I obtain homework for my student when they are absent from school?
Please call your student's Counselor as soon as possible if your student is going to be home from school. The Counselor will request work from the teachers and collect it for you in the Guidance Office.
If your student is going to be out for an extended period of time, i.e. vacation, college visit, and knows about it ahead of time, please have your student request work from their teachers independently.
How will I know when Guidance is sponsoring events?
The Guidance Office will post events on the daily announcements as well as in the Bulldog Bulletin. We also send out a monthly newsletter which is also available through a link on this website. Students are always encouraged to stop in the Guidance Office to keep updated on all events. |
