Were You Too CHICKEN  to Read This Summer?

__________________________________________________________________________

Last summer LES students read so much and did such a great job that the school received a Governor’s Award at a special assembly held in May 2007.  Mrs. Simon thought we would be too “chicken” to read as much this summer as we did last summer.  If LES students could read at least 10,000 books over the summer, Mrs. Simon agreed to walk around all day wearing a chicken outfit!  Guess what . . .

Who's "CHICKEN" now?

LES students read over 11,000 books this summer!!
Every student who read at least one book and returned their reading journal got a chicken hat to wear during our Celebrate Summer Reading Day on Sept. 7.

Some students read enough books to earn a feather or two,
which they got to glue on Mrs. Simon as she wore the chicken outfit.

Other students read so many books, they got their picture taken with Mrs. Simon, and some even had Mrs. Simon sign their chicken hat.

After Mrs. Simon was "feathered",
students gathered in the gym
(wearing their chicken hats, of course!)
to hear her read a story.

Classes who had 100% of their students return their summer reading journals earned a salsa and chips party.  Congratulations to these classes:
Mrs. Provost, Ms. Howard, Mrs. Ieni, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Olsen, Mrs. Yeo,  and Ms. Gamache
