Project Oceanology

Project Oceanology is a marine education center. The resources include a research vessel (Enviro-Lab), oceanographic equipment, a waterfront laboratory, and a highly trained staff of marine educators and technicians. Students use these resources to learn about the ocean environment and its inhabitants through direct, hands-on experiences.

Our Earth

Students learn about the earth: plate tectonics, earthquakes, volcanoes, continent formations and the geological timetable. Then they dig their way into rocks and minerals. Last but not least, they dive into a unit on solutions and pollution and figure out how they can protect not only the environment but its inhabitants.

Biome & Inhabitants

Students explore the different biomes: from the desert, across the grasslands, through the deciduous, coniferous and rain forest; into the lakes and oceans, to the frozen tundra. They review the five kingdoms, studying in depth animal diversity in the animal kingdom.

Flower

Plants

The final unit of the year involves having a green thumb. Students study characteristics that differentiate monocot from dicot plants. Students dissect , mount and label the parts of a flowering plant. Also, they conduct seed to plant growth experiments to determine germination rates, light tolerance, acidic verses fesh water exposure, and temperature tolerance.
