Sixth
grade projects may include, but are not limited to, the following:

EGYPTIAN
CARTOUCHES OR CARVINGS: students design and carve hieroglyphics
and images into a clay slab, with references to those found in
ancient Egyptian pyramids and temples

GREEK
BLACK FIGUREWARE/RELIEF CARVINGS: after study of ancient Grecian
pottery forms and designs; students design and carve figures in
low relief on clay plates that are fired and glazed
-
MOSAICS:
students design and create images using glazed clay
tiles, inspired by the work of the ancient Greeks and Romans along
with modern mosaic artists

ILLUMINATED
LETTER DESIGNS: students design and illuminate a letter form
inspired by early calligraphers

GOTHIC
ROSE WINDOW DESIGNS: students create a radial design inspired
by the stained glass windows of gothic cathedrals
-
FIGURATIVE
SCULPTURE: students create a figure using an armature and
either plaster gauze or papier-mâché, after study of some of
the works of Renaissance sculptors
