I Can" Pre-College Program is now accepting applications for a virtual, three-week intensive program designed to prepare students for the rigors of top-tier universities and STEM careers. CT Summer Transportation Institute at CCSU: Rising 10th to 12th grade students interested in learning more about careers in the transportation industry are encouraged to apply for the CT Summer Transportation Institute. This program is offered free of charge on the campus of CCSU in mid-July and will offer hands-on labs and field trips focusing on land, air and water transportation careers. Horatio Alger Scholarship: The Horatio Alger Association is seeking college-bound applicants with financial need who display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity. This scholarship is open to both Juniors and Seniors seeking a bachelor's degree. The application and specific eligibility requirements can be found at https://horatioalger.org. Contemporary Ensemble is hosting their first open mic night of the year. It is Friday, November 7th at 6:30 pm in the auditorium. Admission is free and sign ups will be at the event. Everyone is welcome to sign up to perform, or just come and enjoy!

Topics will include loans, scholarships, FAFSA and the financial aid package. While parents of seniors are the target audience, all district parents and students are welcome to attend. Yale Splash Program: Splash at Yale is an opportunity for high school students to attend classes taught by Yale students. Splash 2025 will be on October 4th, from 10 AM to 3:30 PM, and held on Yale’s campus. Classes include a wide variety of topics, from Introduction to Investing and Personal Finance to Competitive Pokémon Battling, and Introduction to Special Relativity. CT State Manchester CC will be hosting an info session for students transitioning to college with disabilities. The presentation will include info on the campus, Office of Disability Services, and steps to access services and accommodations. The event will take place on Oct 29th. UConn Stamford Husky-for-a-Day program: UConn Stamford will be hosting several "Husky for a Day" opportunities for prospective students this fall. College, Military and Employment Rep Visits: Admissions representatives from several colleges will be visiting Lyman to meet in small groups with interested students this fall during PAWS. UConn will be visiting on Tuesday, Sept 16th. Any senior that is intending to apply to UConn this year is strongly encouraged to attend. We also have CCSU, SCSU, ECSU, U of New Haven, Marist and several other colleges planning to attend this fall in addition to employers such as Electric Boat and recruiters representing the military.
